Being the gamer I am, I obviously have a range of games I look forward to being released from time to time. Occasionally, there are no games. Sad face. On the other hand, a whole heap of them will be coming out at the same time! At time of writing, it’s the latter at present.
Forza Motorsports 3
I grew up with a Playstation as every boy my age most probably did, and thus played Gran Turismo for half my life. Gran Turismo was the first ’simulation’ racer I played and when I got good enough, I only raced with manual gears and no traction control, ABS etc. Since the demise of my PS2 when I was a teen, I’ve had the Xbox and Xbox 360 since and the only game like GT for the MS console has been the Forza franchise. I mean, I could say Sega 2002 can come under the same genre, but finding tricks like how to ALWAYS win a drag race by starting in a higher gear the shifting down to the appropriate gear… Not really realistic is it. Anyways, I LOVED Forza and Forza 2. I think FM2 is one of the only games where I’ve got nearly all achievements for on the 360. And now a third is coming out! Exciting.
I followed FM2’s development far closely than I have with FM3, and one thing I learnt while they made FM2 was that they wanted to nail the perfect simulation mechanics in the game before the graphics. Every time I hear someone saying “Mer mer, GT4 looks better than FM2 and it’s on a PS2, mer mer mer.” I either ‘try’ to reply to them the above in a short space of time without going on and fueling their fan boi arguments. With FM3, they worked more on the mechanics and thoroughly slapped some more graphics on top of the game. The only other game I know with tyre deforming simulation is Live For Speed, and I love that sim! (Albeit I’ve not played it for a LONG time now since my DFP broke, it’s still the best simulator on the block and again, at present the mechanics are tip top while graphics are slowly creeping up behind it.) I don’t see GT4 with simulation that deep and it always says ‘The Ultimate Driving Simulator’ on the box. Sony, you lie! Also, Sony, I bought a PSP 2 or 3 years ago with the promise of a Gran Turismo Portable… You took your GOD DAMN time getting it! And I sold my PSP a year or so ago. Your loss, matey.
Call of Duty: Modern Warefare 2
The day COD4:Modern Warfare was released, I went to the shops and bought it. It wasn’t like I woke up one day, saw it looked nice and grabbed it, was more of a ‘OMFG, COD4 IS OUT OMG OMG OMG! *Goes to shops*’. The game itself I played straight through and loved every minute of it. It was the first game in the COD series to be set in modern times (COD1, 2 and 3 were more WW1 and WW2, much like Battlefield 2 was the first modern BF game) and MW2 is a continuation from COD4. It’s got a lot of English guys in it all ‘ard and such, which makes it so much more fun for some reason. Plus, the fact it’s up to date with the times makes it that much more appealing to the mass market, which is why you could say COD4 is as played and talked about for online gaming these days.
With no demo out, no one can tell what it’s going to be like baring what’s been shown in videos or talked about on blogs/websites. I think it’s safe to say that MW2 will be FAR better than COD5, which frankly.. sucked. I heard everyone who bought COD5 traded it in once they got the achievements/trophies to buy COD4, LOL! The reason for this is that COD4 was developed by Infinity Ward – COD5 was developed by Treyarch. MW2 is also dev’d by Infinity Ward.. Hopefully you see the same pattern as me.
(I’m not saying Treyarch are cack by the way! Just that their no Infinity Ward.)
Their the main two game’s I’m holding out for right now. I could go on about Need For Speed shift, but that’s already released so I could go buy it now, so I’m not waiting for it.
MW2 is out on (In American dates) 11/10/09 which is the 10th of November. Forza 3 is out the 23rd of October.
