Three-dee

So of late I have been putting my student copy of Maya to good use!

It’s strange, I went to University with a big passion for 3D and wanted to get into 3D modeling for games or Animation for shorts/films but came out doing VFX and Film. >.< Having 2 years experience with 3DS Max prior to attending Uni, I felt I had a good footing to move forwards in my studys and become a lot better at it. I knew nearly every trick, hidden button and where things were. But, at Uni we were taught Maya and I just didn’t click with it. To be honest, I didn’t click with Max as first. I tried it, failed and left it 6 months then tried again and became pretty good.

The same has kinda happened with Maya. I’ve recently picked it up again because my Student edition of the application needed using, and I’ve just managed to pick up where I left off with Max. I know where a fair few things are and although I am not the worlds most advanced Maya user, I can do enough to get me by.

That said, here is some stuff I have been doing over the last couple of weeks/months.

I started off making a desk. Not just a random, normal desk. But a custom desk I would absolutely love to build one day. It consists of a powerful PC, some nice cathodes and a glass top! Here, I shall show you:

So as you can kinda see, the glass surface on the left is housing a i7 beast of a gaming PC. On a separate level we have two monitors. I am gunning for duel 23″ or 24″ monitors, depending on price and space! Then finally we have three draws on the right for storage of stuff, pretty generic for a desk really.

The real beauty is that the PC is on show, and obviously the bits I need are available. Such as USB, disk drives and (once I model them) the power/reset button’s and lights will be just on the front:

Can just about make them out here. I was thinking 2 drives, as that seems to be what I always had. xD So I want 2. :D

Anyway, more about the modeling! *Throws images online*

As you can tell, the motherboard hasn’t been modeled. BUT, I am working on that one too!

The original motherboard is an Asus Rampage III Extreme. I have started put 12GB of RAM on there and left them as their not too big, graphic cards however will just get in the way. xD But yes, I am slowly but steadily working on it all and it should be complete soon. Once I done these components, it’s BluRay drives, Harddrives and other such stuff to be modeled. :D

Really loving this build, fingers crossed I make it a reality. :)
