End of Year Show – Design for Digital Media 2010

So, it’s that time of year again where my college has it’s institution wide End of Year Show. Every course in the college puts on a cracking performance and showcases the students work to friends, family and more importantly – industry professionals.

As much as I would like to blog about the entire college, I’m basically going to document to the best of my capabilities the happenings of the DDM studio’s transformation from studio to showcase space (and a bit more). Everyone has their offered their services in one way or another, so these blogs are just general overviews of everyone and everything. :-)

So today was the first day we are able to do anything to any of the spaces we have to our disposal. As we can’t touch the studio just yet, today we started to transform the ‘cinema’ into a.. well, cinema. First thing though is making a space to project onto! And this mean’t building a wall. The day started off with about 5 people lending hands and the main plans were etched out onto paper. From this, measurements were taken, wood was cut then about a hour or so later, a frame was born.

This was then promptly erected and fasted so well to the building nothing will ever shift it! Jim certainly knows what he’s doing! *PS: If you want some jobs done, get Jim on the case.* :p After some faffing about with some more wood, some choons and a cuppa or two, the whole frame was complete.

This then swiftly got covered in plaster board, ready to be plastered tomorrow for a smooth finish.

Tomorrow it should be 100% complete that wall, so the rest of the room can be concentrated on and touched up with some paint, speakers and projector setup etc. There were a few ideas tossed around about how the top of the board could be covered as you can see a pinboard behind, but how that will be tackled I think remains to be seen.

To see all the random photos I’ve taken and will continue to take, see THIS FLICKR SET I have created just for this. :)

Adios amigos!
