Ideas

Sunday, May 16th, 2010

So my ideas for this brief are pretty neat. Their not OTT comedy like my usual incarnations or slightly numerous, it’s actually quite serious. So, I shall list you my ideas here.

Idea 1: Roughly 30 seconds long.

A Mum takes a picture of something, we do not see what she is taking an image of but we see the camera flashing slowly. (1) The background is slowly moving left while the camera is panning right. We then see the mother with her camera hooked up to the computer and uploading the image to a social website (If I can use Facebook, then FB. Otherwise, it will be a rough look a like kinda thing). Her son, sitting in his room, ideally a student room, will look to his PC, click the mouse and start to smile. Next, her daughter is sitting up against a tree in the park on her netbook (possibly with friends around her?)(2) and she too see’s the picture, and starts to smile. Next, the mothers husband is on a train/in the city/on transportation and he is looking at his phone. He presses a button and he too starts to smile. Finally, we see the corner of a crooked photo that’s just been put up. A old woman then straightens the picture and takes a step back into the arms of her husband. (These being the grandparents) and they are both smiling and happy. The camera then shows the full picture and pans towards/away the image to reveal what people have been smiling about.

1. The style of this is taken from the Watchmen’s intro.

2. Not sure this will work, a netbook in the park? I mean it’s not uncommon, but still a bit out of place possibly.

Cons:

  • How am I going to let the viewer know the characters are looking at the image? Other than the smile?
  • Such a short amount of time to get this production done, and MINIMUM I need 7 characters (One being either a Dog or a Baby, although that can be off iStockphoto or otherwise).
  • If I film, I will need the high speed camera. This would (on location) require a computer and a power source. Very heavy and would need a crew for a 5 second shot. As I am very limited on time, it’s not a burden I would like to undertake.
  • Getting actors this short notice MIGHT be an issue. I could always find a family fitting the description who might be willing to help out?

Workarounds:

  • I could Greenscreen the actors and composite the backgrounds. This may make the job easier as all the actors can be in one place, also it gives me more control over what scenery or backdrops are being used.
  • I could use still images for backdrops if I Greenscreen, rather than filming. Again, making production easier.
  • I could use still images of the actors, but that would not emphasise their emotions as well. Although it would give it a possible more ‘Kodak’ moment as their images, a Kodak moment being a shot of a moment in life captured in a image.

So yeah. That’s idea one with as many cons as I can think of thus far. There are probably shed loads more, but their not at the front of my mind right now. I shall edit this post as necessary as they come to my mind. I do however have a work around, but whether it works or not.. I wont know till I do a small test.

Adios for now.
